With 4 weeks until I depart, it's a whirlwind of preparations and planning. I have found out my placement will be at the Sanga-Sangai school in the Bhurangkhel district in Kathmandu. It is within walking distance of the house where I'll be staying.
Sanga-Sangai(the Nepali word for ‘Together’) was founded in 2008. It is a not-for-profit, Non Governmental Organization(NGO) that is a community based child development charity in the heart of Kathmandu, Nepal. Sanga-Sangai is registered with the district administration office in Kathmandu and has an affiliation with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal. Due to significant poverty in areas of Nepal, many young children find themselves leaving school early to work and beg on the streets. These children work to support not only themselves, but often their families as well. It is an unfortunate cycle wherein parents were unable to finish school or pursue higher education and now do not have the opportunity to support their children, who subsequently need to drop out of school to work. Sanga-Sangai wishes to support the poor and disadvantaged children who are simultaneously battling to escape cycles of poverty and caste politics.

There are so many loose ends to still tie up before leaving, and it seems like that more I get done, the more there is to do! It's going to feel fantastic to just get on that plane and be on the way there. I am literally sitting in my pyjamas as I type this and am chatting with people I'll be working with in Kathmandu. The children are apparently getting very excited! I can't wait to meet them.
I am so very grateful to everyone for all of the support I've received since making this decision, and helping me make it a reality. All the words of encouragement have really meant a lot. It's full speed ahead for the next few weeks!
